8″ Tabletop Lathe
This 4000-series tabletop lathe can turn a part up to 3.5” in diameter over the bed or up to 1.88” over the carriage without riser blocks. With an optional riser block, parts up to 6” in diameter can be turned over the bed. The lathe has 8” of space between centers. The electronic speed control allows continuously variable speed control from 70 to 2,800 RPM without belt changes. There is a second pulley position available that offers extra torque at low RPM if needed. This lathe is a good choice for clockmakers, modelers, or those who will be working on small parts. It is also the most compact lathe we make and is easily used where space is at a premium and can be stored on a closet shelf. Our tabletop lathe is perfect for the customer looking for a mini lathe machine to make small, precision parts. All our mini lathes are made in the USA, and our customer service is second to none. Although our lathes are small, they can produce high-quality precision parts. Our 8" tabletop lathe will not only cut wood and plastic but is also rigid and accurate enough to cut aluminum and steel parts. This small lathe is a desktop-size machine with full-size machine precision and accuracy. Standard equipment includes:
  • A powerful 90V DC motor with electronic speed controller*
  • 2.75" (70mm) x 6.0" (152mm) crosslide
  • 15" (381mm) steel bed to allow 8" (203mm) between centers
  • Standard 1-5/8" (41mm) laser-engraved aluminum handwheels
  • Pulleys, drive belt, faceplate, lathe dog, two dead centers, three hexagonal keys, tool post, sharpened high-speed steel cutting tool, eight-foot three-wire power cord, and instruction manual
* Not included with lathe without motor and speed control

CNC Linear Controller with 15″ Leadscrew

This linear controller package includes a stepper motor mount and a 15" leadscrew for use on Sherline lathes that are not CNC-Ready. The stand-alone controller is programmable through its integrated keypad and directly controls the attached stepper motor, which is mounted to drive the lathe’s leadscrew. (A separate kit with a 24" leadscrew is available for 4400-series lathes—P/N 8880.)

An 8-pin mini-DIN cable allows multiple controllers to be connected in a “daisy-chain” configuration. The controllers can signal each other to operate in sequence, enabling complex multi-axis operations without the need for a computer or master CNC controller. The system can also be used in conjunction with existing CNC controllers. Each unit can store two separate programs, with up to 40 steps per program. For each step, you can define travel distance, direction, feed rate, and whether the sequence pauses or advances automatically.

The linear controller can also be daisy-chained with Sherline’s rotary controller (P/N 8700), allowing coordinated rotary and linear motion. This makes it easy to perform sophisticated operations—such as gear cutting—without any CNC programming knowledge beyond the keypad interface.

Advantages of Using a Power Feed:

  • Maintains a constant feed rate for smoother, more consistent surface finishes

  • Minimizes errors from miscounting handwheel revolutions

  • Eliminates physical effort during long cuts or when returning the saddle to the starting position

Programming is simple and intuitive. Stored programs can be run repeatedly at the push of a button with excellent repeatability and accuracy.

Included with the CNC Linear Controller:

  • Linear controller with keypad

  • Power supply

  • #23 frame size stepper motor

  • Cables

  • Stepper motor mount

  • 15" leadscrew

  • Dampened coupling

  • Preload nuts

  • Drill guide block

  • Complete installation and operating instructions

Power Supply Compatibility:
The included power supply operates on 110–240 VAC and automatically adjusts for global use (220–240V). Earlier models of this product shipped with a 110 VAC-only power supply.

CNC Linear Controller – Z-Axis

This stand-alone controller is programmable from its keypad and controls the stepper motor's function to which it is attached.

An 8-pin mini-DIN cable can be used to connect multiple units in a "daisy chain." The units can signal each other to work in sequence, allowing multiple movements to be accomplished without using a computer or master CNC controller. They can also be used in conjunction with existing CNC controllers. The controller is user-programmable with two separate programs of up to 40 operations each. In each block, you can control distance, direction, speed, and whether the program pauses or proceeds to the next block.

The linear controller can also be "daisy-chained" with Sherline's rotary controller to achieve rotary and linear movement combinations. This makes it easy to set up for relatively sophisticated operations like cutting gears without having to know anything about CNC programming beyond what is entered from these simple keypads.

Using a power feed offers several advantages:
  1. A constant feed rate gives a smoother, more consistent final finish
  2. The chance of errors due to miscounting handwheel revolutions is reduced
  3. No physical effort is needed for long cuts or returning the saddle to its starting position after a cut is complete

Programming is quick and simple, and programs are repeated at the touch of a button with high accuracy.

Items included with the CNC Linear Controller:
  • Linear Controller w/Keypad
  • Power Supply
  • #23 Frame Size Stepper Motor
  • Cables
  • Stepper motor mount
  • Z-axis Leadscrew
  • Dampened coupling
  • Preload nuts
  • Drill guide block and complete installation and use instructions
About the Controller Power Supply Current

The controller power supply is 110-240VAC compatible. It automatically switches from 110V to 240V for countries with 220-240 volt electrical current. The original power supply that we offered with this product was 110 VAC only.

High-Torque Stepper Motor

Sherline’s high-torque stepper motor features the same NEMA 23 frame size as our standard stepper motor but delivers over 75% more torque - ideal for increased cutting feed rates and better performance on the Z-axis, where it can handle the added weight of the motor and headstock. Note that maximum rapid feed rate remains unchanged.

Important Compatibility Note: Due to the increased torque, these motors require an updated CNC coupler (P/N 671052, sold separately). If upgrading from systems using the discontinued coupler (P/N 67105), ensure you purchase the correct replacement.

Rated at 2 amps, these motors are fully compatible with all Sherline CNC machines, including complete CNC systems, our 4-axis driver box, CNC rotary tables and our linear and rotary motion controllers. No additional power supply upgrades are needed.

Dual-shaft design allows handwheel operation for manual control. Flats are precision-ground on both ends to secure handwheels and couplers via set screws. When used with Sherline motor mounts, the shaft end engaging the coupler must have a flat to prevent damage from the set screw. This may not be necessary in non-Sherline applications.

Each motor includes a six-lead cable with a 5-pin connector, pre-wired to interface seamlessly with Sherline's CNC equipment, making setup fast and easy - just plug in and go.

67127 stepper motor
67127 stepper motor
Stepper Motor

Sherline stepper motors feature shafts at both ends, allowing for manual control via a handwheel, if desired. Flats are ground onto each shaft to accommodate set screws for the handwheel and coupling. For use with a Sherline motor mount, ensure that the shaft entering the coupling has a flat machined or ground onto it where the set screw secures it. Failure to do so may damage the shaft, making the coupling difficult to remove. For non-Sherline applications, the flat may not be necessary.

Powerful Dual-Shaft Motors
  • P/N 67127: This motor comes pre-wired with six leads in a connector that plugs directly into Sherline's linear or rotary controllers. Both our CNC system and driver box include four pre-wired cables with 5-pin plugs that match the P/N 67127 stepper motor. Simply plug each stepper motor into the corresponding axis cable for an easy setup.

  • P/N 67130: This motor features six raw wire leads, and does not include a connector, so that it can be used with non-Sherline controllers that have a different pin configuration.

Note: Due to the lack of standardization in the industry, wire colors can vary between suppliers. If using a connector not supplied by Sherline we recommend using a continuity checker to identify which wire connects to each pin on the DIN plug. Typically, the black and white (or tan) wires are connected to the center pins, but other colors may vary. See our specifications sheet for wiring diagram.
