Mike Rehmus is not only an experienced machinist, he also is a professional video photographer and editor. He is probably best known among model engineers for his annual video documentation at the N.A.M.E.S. and P.R.I.M.E. shows and now as editor of Model Engine Builder magazine. He has now produced the first in what will be a series of videos for the home machinist and has put a lot of effort into making this video not only informative but also fun to watch. Photography, lighting, titles, animation and narration are all first rate.

He takes each measuring tool used by a machinist and covers how it works, how it is used and how it is maintained. You will learn about everything from micrometers and calipers to depth mics and sine bars. Even something as basic as using a scribe properly is covered. Where necessary to explain a concept, excellent animated visuals are utilized.

If you are new to machining, your parts will only be as accurate as your ability to measure them. Learn what tools you need to buy for your shop and the proper way to use them right from the start. Unless you were fortunate to apprentice under a real expert with measuring tools, you will learn a lot from this video. If you are new to machining, the price is almost insignificant compared to the knowledge you will gain.
