New Products from Sherline

It is Sherline's policy to continue to introduce new items that make life easier for the machinist or make it possible to accomplish specialized jobs using Sherline tools. Whenever possible, these accessories are designed to work with all existing Sherline machines now in use. Because catalogs must be purchased in high quantities to keep cost low, they must last a couple of years between printings. Sherline's 48-page Eighth Edition catalog includes thirteen products added since the previous edition was printed. New products added after April, 2008 will be detailed below until the next catalog is printed. Bookmark this page and check back now and then to keep up on the latest new offerings from Sherline.

P/N 2127 Stereo Microscope and mill mount—Utilizing the same high quality stereo microscope first added for use on the lathe, we have now created a mount to use it on the milling machine as well. The mount allows the scope to be pivoted from the front to the side position to view the cutting action from any angle. For those who already have the microscope for the lathe, the mount itself can be purchased as P/N 2128 ($225.00). The price for the microscope and mill mount together is $865.00. (8/07)
P/N 2265 Negative Rake Ceramic Insert Tool Holder—Even tougher than carbide, this ceramic tip will put a mirror finish on hard materials like tool steel. The triangular insert has six potential cutting surfaces because the tool relief is achieved by angling the cutter downward slightly to get a negative rake. Price is $60.00 for the 3/8" shank holder, one ceramic insert and the 3/32" hex key used to tighten down the 5-40 hold-down screw. (2/9/07)
P/N 2125 Stereo Microscope and lathe mount—You asked for it, now will you order it? We have had a number of requests for the ultimate in vision enhancement for your Sherline lathe. We now offer a high quality stereo microscope and mount designed specifically for the Sherline lathe. Click on the link above to see the page on this new product for details. Delivery is a couple of weeks after your order as initially we are ordering the microscopes only a few at a time until we get a feel for demand. The price is $750 for the scope and mount individually or add $725 to the price of any lathe if ordering at the same time. (2/1/07)
P/N 1204 Adjustable Tailstock holder for 5/32" Jacobs Chuck—Due to several requests we have added another adjustable tailstock tool to the line. This one allows you to perfectly center your 5/32" Jacobs chuck. Press off the existing arbor and press it onto the 0JT taper of this holder. $45.00. The front plate only is available as P/N 12140 at $24.00. (1/31/07)
P/N 1016 5/32" Jacobs Chuck on Adjustable Tailstock Holder—Don't have a 5/32" chuck? This accessory includes both the chuck and 1204 holder already pressed on. $100.00. Perfect centering for the tailstock is especially critical for extremely small drill bits, and now you have a way to achieve it without going to collets. (1/31/07)

P/N 54182 18" Extended Mill Table and P/N 50172 or P/N 50173 18" X-Axis leadscrews—Designed for CNC use, this extra long table (5" longer than the standard 13" table) can also be used with any manual mill. The table does not have a laser engraved scale on the side, so there is no need for separate inch or metric part number. The 50172 leadscrew is for CNC use and the 50173 leadscrew has the handwheel extension for manual use. (1/31/07)
P/N 45260 15" Extended Mill Column and P/N 45270/45280 regular 15" leadscrews or P/N 45290/45291 CNC 15" leadscrews—OK, these aren't really new, but the part numbers were only listed on the replacement parts list where nobody could seem to find them. This is to let you know you can now add 4" to the Z-axis travel of your mill. The Table lists for $90.00 and the leadscrews (your choice) are $18.00 each. (1/31/07)
P/N 8900: High Speed Engraving Head, $245.00—This new air spindle is held by a special headstock that mounts to the normal Sherline mill saddle pin. P/N 7550: Super-Lube PTFE general purpose synthetic grease, 3-oz tube, $5.00—We like this teflon-based grease so much we buy it in 5-gallon buckets and lubricate all new Sherline machines with it before they leave the factory. Now you can buy it in a handy small tube. Non-staining. (11/04)
P/N 7555: Super-Lube PTFE Dri-film lubricant, 11-oz aerosol can, $8.00—Same Teflon-based lubricant as the grease, but in an easy-to-apply spray can. Spray it on and it dries to a thin film of lubricant. Great for horizontal and vertical slides plus many other uses around the house like garage door chains or tracks. The spray is great for getting into hard-to-reach places too. (11/04)

P/N 1171 Oak WW Collet Box with 96-hole insert, $32.00—This attractive oak box is a fitting way to protect and display your valuable WW collets. The sides have beveled corners so you see no end grain. The bottom is a tough hardboard and the insert is oak to match the box. All surfaces are nicely finished with a smooth satin lacquer. The brass hardware is attached with small Phillips screws rather than simply pressed into the wood. With the insert removed, the box would also make a handsome display/storage box for jewelry or other valuable items. Inside size is 9-1/4" x 3-3/4". (11/01)

P/N 4335 10,000 RPM Pulley Set, $80.00—For those who need spindle speeds faster than the 2800 RPM offered by the standard pulley ratio, this set of pulleys and a specially designed split standoff allow the Sherline DC motor to turn the headstock spindle up to 10,000 RPM. P/N 37091 12 x 1mm to 3/8-16 chuck adapter, $15.00—The Sherline rotary table has a 3/8-16 hole in the center and comes with an adapter that screws in and has a 3/4-16 thread on the other end. This allows a standard Sherline chuck to be screwed onto the face of the rotary table and used as a holding fixture. This new adapter allows you to also use Sherline or other brand chucks threaded with a 12 x 1 mm center hole. (9/01)

P/N 37092 14 x 1mm to 3/8-16 chuck adapter, $15.00—Same as the above adapter but sized to hold chucks with a 14 x 1 mm center hole. (9/01)

P/N 1012 Sensitive Drilling Attachment ($110.00)—This spring supported chuck gives you the proper "feel" for hand feeding when drilling small holes. It speeds up the process too, as you can move the drill faster than with the handwheel. The shaft fits inside the spindle and the mount screws onto the external spindle thread in seconds. A Jacobs 5/32" drill chuck is pushed down by hand using a knurled collar that rides on ball bearings. A spring inside the shaft returns the chuck to the retracted position when downward pressure is released. This is a good way to drill small holes that combines precise but quick control of the feed with plenty of feel for the cut when the precision of the Z-axis handwheel is not needed for depth control.

P/N 1164/1165 WW and 8 mm Collet Fixtures, $105.00The collet fixture was designed to be mounted either on the surface of the rotary table or on the mill table. A knurled ring allows WW collets to be tightened without the use of a drawbolt from the back. This is particularly useful for clockmakers for gearcutting on a gear blank that has a pinion shaft attached that can be held in a collet. A bushing is provided that fits into the center hole of the rotary table and helps locate the fixture on center. T-nuts and attaching screws are also provided for clamping the fixture in place in the rotary table or mill table T-slots. Use P/N 1164 with Sherline and similar WW collets which have a .312-.313 body diameter. Use P/N 1165 with other brand 8.0 mm collets measuring .314-.315 in body diameter. (The P/N 1165 fixture is identified by a groove cut around the body which is not present on the P/N 1164 holder.)

P/N 1272 Compound Riser (Available August, 2001)This block is approximately 1" thick and allows the compound slide (P/N 1270) to be used on the front side of the crosslide when the riser blocks are in place on the lathe. Four 1-1/4" mounting screws are included to replace the screws that come with the compound slide.

P/N 1296 Cutoff tool riser (Available August, 2001)This accessory is not meant to imply that you can part off large stock, but many people leave their riser blocks in place when doing operations on small diameter stock, and this accessory allows you to use the cutoff tool without removing the riser blocks. It is used on the "back" side of the part with the blade upside down to reduce "chatter". The extra wide base adds to stability. Includes T-nuts and hold-down screws. (Cutoff tool and holder P/N 3002 are shown but sold separately.)

P/N 5329 Shop Secrets–Measuring Tools, by Mike Rehmus, $40.00Mike Rehmus is both an expert videographer as well as an experienced machinist. This professionally produced 2-hour VHS video shows and tells you what you need to know about using measurement tools correctly. It covers tools from calipers to micrometers to depth gages and more. It is useful not only for Sherline machinists, but also for anyone who needs to measure parts accurately. Also covered is how to adjust and maintain the tools plus some bonus footage of displays at the North American Model Engineering Expo in Michigan.
