Members of the San Diego Aerospace Museum restoration
crew make parts for a museum model using a SHERLINE Lathe. Small parts of
all kinds can be custom made when you have the right tools. You don't have to
be an experienced machinist to get started, and SHERLINE's detailed instructions
will help you start making good parts right away.

IMMA

International Miniature Machinists Association

SHERLINE would like to be able to provide a forum for all miniature machinists to get together, share knowledge, talk about projects, offer tips and ask for help. Our website is a new venture for us as it is for many companies, and we will be the first to admit we don't yet fully understand the capabilities and limitations of the new resource that we have at hand. Our goal in the industry, as we have stated in our sponsorship of the Machinist's Challenge at the N.A.M.E.S. Show in Wyandotte, Michigan, each April, is to promote and encourage machinists to look to the small end of the scale for great satisfaction in machining projects. We believe that the challenges of working small offer several benefits over embarking on larger projects. We feel small projects are superior in that they offer the following advantages:

  1. The machine tools required costs hundreds rather than thousands of dollars
  2. Materials costs can be a few cents or just a few dollars
  3. Projects can be completed in a kitchen or on a garage workbench
  4. The finished project is easily displayed on a desk or coffee table
  5. Small size encourages precision work

For these reasons we are soliciting ideas on how a forum might be established that would be interactive and allow users of this site to contact others with similar interests. Unfortunately, our resources do not allow for a full time staff to pass on E-Mail, monitor a newsgroup or answer technical questions ourselves. We can see how this could quickly become a load we could not handle within our budget. However, there are many qualified machinists using the Internet who could answer specific questions if given the chance. It would also be handy for people to be able to publish plans, offer equipment for sale or pass on their comments about equipment they have used or purchased. Knowledge in this forum would be exchanged freely and in a non-commercial manner. It is not our intent to use this section as a commercial for SHERLINE equipment, and comments and reviews on any manufacturer's products would be welcome.

We realize the talent pool out there who might happen upon this page probably includes some who know how to accomplish these goals. If you have any ideas along these lines, please feel free to call our toll free number and ask for Craig.
