Much like the adjustable live center, holding a tailstock chuck in perfect alignment without some method of adjusting it can be difficult or impossible. To achieve perfect centering, the chuck is mounted to a front plate. The rear plate has the #0 Morse taper that goes into the tailstock spindle. Slightly oversize holes in the rear plate allow the two plates to be adjusted in relationship to each other so that the chuck can be brought into perfect alignment with the headstock. This is similar to the P/N 1202 holder which has a threaded back to accept a 1/4" or 3/8" Jacobs drill chuck. This particular holder has a 0JT (Zero Jacobs Taper) on the front plate so that a Jacobs 5/32" chuck can be pressed on. This is an economical way to have the accuracy of an adjustable tailstock for those who need it while keeping costs down for those who don't. Included is a hex key to tighten the 8-32 socket head screws.
The holder can also be purchased with a 5/32" chuck already pressed on. The P/N 1016 chuck and holder includes the chuck key and a hex key to tighten the 8-32 socket head screws that hold the front and rear plates together.
